The idea for Wurms or Burns was born from a glaring universal problem: death and legacy planning are culturally taboo, legally intimidating, and financially inaccessible for most everyday families. When a family member passes without organized directives or documented heritage, grieving survivors are thrust into months of emotional overwhelm, bureaucratic red tape, and lost memories. We asked: Why does preparing for the inevitable have to be cold, clinical, and stressful? We set out to transform end-of-life readiness into a proactive, dignified, and even unifying experience.  

We make a profound impact by promoting death literacy, mental wellness, and intergenerational connection across Canadian communities. By providing accessible tools for digital estate planning, healthcare directives, and interactive family history preservation (including links to public heritage archives like Library and Archives Canada), we alleviate the devastating financial and psychological burdens of sudden loss. We empower aging adults and their children to have open, caring conversations—ensuring every individual’s voice is honoured and no family's story is forgotten. 

Our primary growth catalyst is the "Collaborative Living Tapestry" Framework—a philosophy that shifts estate planning from an isolating, one-time legal chore into an engaging, multi-generational family journey. Rather than asking users to simply fill out sterile legal forms, Wurms or Burns weaves together end-of-life directives with rich family history, voice keepsakes, heirloom photos, and loss navigation checklists that family members can contribute to and access securely.
